The control valves in the picture were shipped by the vendor which are typically ready for installation and commissioning. However, during our validation and testing as part of the specification check process, it was found that the internal soft limit switches have not been activated in the DVC smart positioner.
This pre-check will help with keeping the loop check progress moving forward and reducing the extra time needed in the field if such change will need to be made.
A simple soft switch not activated in this case can cost approximately 3 hours of down time during the final loop check which covers the following personnel; DCS/SIS specialist, instrument tech and the client QA representative.
